RULES

nearby is loosely based around the denny triangle neighborhood in seattle, washington. this post-covid community will be driven by writing, in character drama, communication and activity. we'd like to promote a fun and safe environment to write characters who have flaws and may be unlikable at times. this is an organic community, at least for the time being, but may be reassessed later depending on community needs and feedback. each character may join with one major line (ex, spouse, sibling, coworker, etc), but additional connections will quickly be built via randomly assigned chance encounters. while we encourage you to join with characters that are homeless and you've written before, please remember that pre-existing connections are discouraged. we'd love everybody to join on a level playing field regardless of who you might know out of character. seattle is known for many things including its evergreen forests, music and food festivals, tourism, and of course... coffee. this is only the tip of the iceberg. the opportunities are endless for creating and writing interesting characters.

we want to make applying to nearby as simple as possible, and the process is much like any other community. ‣ you will need either an ic or ooc journal
‣ a screened ooc post and friend's only post, both backdated
‣ a 100-200 word character summary with basic facts (name, age, occupation, etc). you may also list tropes, astrological signs, enfp results etc. fleshed out characters are great, but we understand that some aspects may be developed as they're written
‣ because random scenarios will be given by the mod team, we'd also like you to include the level of ic drama on a 1-10 scale that you're comfortable being involved in if your application was deleted, this means we do not believe you are a good fit for this community. if there's anything wrong with your application, we will reach out to find a solution before adds take place

we all know that traditional intros can be repetitive. to try something different, each week the mod team will host a free for all that can be counted as your character's introduction. you must respond to the majority of other comments, and to comments left for you. we understand that there may be a gap between adds and the weekly ffa, so other means of introing is more than welcome! this can be a narrative, lyrics, social media post, or a more traditional question. we'd like to see your introduction activity within 72 hours of being added as this is essential to build connections within the community. update requirements
