loosely based around the denny triangle neighborhood in seattle, washington, nearby is a post-covid community that will be driven by writing, in character drama, communication and activity. seattle is known for its natural beauty and social allures including its evergreen forests, music and food festivals, tourism, and of course... coffee. this is only the tip of the iceberg leaving endless opportunites to create and write a multitude of interesting plot points and interactions!

we hope to promote a fun and safe environment for characters in all walks of life, some of whom have flaws and may be unlikable at times.

the process of applying to nearby is much like any other community, simple as possible and with options to suit all. while we pride ourselves on being an inclusive community, please note that rejection is a possibility and there is nothing personal behind it. we welcome you to try again with another role if your initial role is rejected, but explanations of rejections will not be given.

to apply you will need
‣ either an ic or ooc journal
‣ a screened post and a friend's only post, both backdated
‣ a 100-200 word character summary with basic facts (name, age, occupation, etc). you may also list tropes, astrological signs, enfp results etc. fleshed out characters are great, but we understand that some aspects may be developed as they're written!
‣ because random scenarios will be given by the mod team, we'd also like you to either include a preference card as seen here in an unscreened comment in your screened post or at the very least, list the level of ic drama on a 1-10 scale that you're comfortable being involved in somewhere in your bio. this is optional, but recommended.
‣ finally, any of the following: examples, a narrative, or a fully fleshed out bio to get a sense of your writing.

for starters, we all know that traditional intros can be repetitive. we've heard them all before, so to try something different, each week we'll host a free for all that can be counted as your character's introduction given you respond to the majority of your comments within the first 72 hours after you've been added! we understand that there may be a gap between adds and the weekly ffa, so other means of introing are more than welcome ie narratives, lyrics posts, social media posts, a post in yabber, a blog style post or a traditional intro. any and all forms of introduction are acceptable so long as they're posted within 72 hours of being added as this is an essential time to build connections within the community.

if you are added between the 1st and 15th of the month, you will be required to submit both an update and an activity. if you are added between the 16th and 25th of the month, you will only be required to submit ONE form, whether it's an update or an activity. intros do not count toward update requirements. after the 25th, you will only need your intro activity. update requirements

one piece of writing at least 100-200 words per month. this writing can be a narrative, a blog style post, a ramble of thoughts or a scene where all parties participating consent to sharing said writing with the mod team to count towards activity. comments can be on or off, your call!

activity requirements

one interacative post be it a social media post, hosting a plot post, lyrics, a post in yabber or anything else with open comments you'll be required to respond to within the week you've posted. abandoned posts, or posts you've failed to respond to most comments in, will not count

though it should be a given, we feel it's still important we stress there should be no crossing ic/ooc lines, bullying or harassment of any kind. also worthy of note: your ic drama is not racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia or any other phobia or ism. these topics can be touched on in narratives when tagged with a trigger warning, but never used as means of ic conflict between two characters or more. if you catch wind of anything of the sort, please bring it to our attention. we want nearby tp be a safe place for everyone to write and enjoy their characters and plan to implement a 0 tolerance policy when it comes to serious matters such as these.

‣ we do not accept challenges, meaning everything is first come, first serve!
‣ while we will not outright ban wire, we'd prefer not to see it advertised on the friend's page, in ooc posts, or in pbads. the majority of your interaction should be on the friend's page and in your customs
